Nail World @ All Seasons Place Branch

It's been a while since my last post. I haven't been doing my mani-pedi's as often as I used to, for the simple reason that I am expecting a baby! =D Although it's pretty safe to have the occasional treat, you know there's always some old Chinese traditional saying regarding everything. Like no renovation, moving furniture, cutting things, sewing, and even painting nails! Okay, perhaps there's a reason behind this, as manicures involve a certain degree of exposure to chemicals which might be harmful if inhaled in excess.

Anyway, I'm now reaching my due date, which is somewhere around Christmas time. So exciting, this year's present is going to be the best ever! ^_^ And followed by a month of confinement period recuperating at home.

Now here is a quick update if you're looking for a nail salon around Farlim area. I've previously reviewed Dream Nails, which has ceased business operations. The place has recently changed management, and now operates as Nail World. The company is established since 2005 and has a number of branches around Penang - at E-Gate, Queensbay, and Kelawai Road.

My visit was at their All Seasons Place branch. The salon set up didn't change much from my last visit - then Dream Nails. But the team of staff were different. I tried the classic manicure and pedicure. The manicurist who attended to me is well-trained and the steps were done in a breeze. She also advised on my nail colour, a champagne shimmer tone that I absolutely adore!

Nail World is having a special promotion for manicure + pedicure. Normal price is RM75, but for a limited time, you can get both mani and pedi for only RM37.90! Now that is a good bargain.

The only term and condition is that it's a first trial offer, which means you should be a new customer (not an existing member). If you wish to enjoy this great value price again on your next visit, you can sign up for one of their packages. To me, the package is good value because there's about 50% savings from normal prices for classic mani+pedi.

I Am Peranakan Nail Polish Collection Box A by Jacqueline Burchell

This month I shall be doing a review on an awesome nail polish collection by Jacqueline Burchell.

I first came across this brand from online beauty stores like Zalora and Luxola. I found that they are from Singapore and it is really amazing to find that their nail polish collection is made so close to home. Check out their website for an extensive collection of colours.

Their Safety Guarantee states that all their products are free from harmful chemicals such as Toulene, Formaldehyde and Dibutyl Phthalate. "Safety Standard CHECKED"!

"I Am Peranakan" is a collection of Peranakan-inspired nail polish colours. The collection comes in 3 sets packaged in 3 types of metal tin boxes. I just got my hands on Box A which is the one with the yellow, pink and green "houses". This is my first time trying Jacqueline Burchell products and I must say that first impression counts!

I absolutely love how the whole set is boxed. The tin packaging is great as you have a handy and reliable box to store all those nail polishes. Extra points because it has a really chic and colourful cover.

The box art resembles the local heritage buildings inspired by Peranakan culture and architecture, a familiar sight that is found in Malaysia and Singapore.

Four nail colours are displayed on the side on the box. There are actually six bottles in one set including a top coat and a calcium base coat. They come in little 5ml or 0.17fl oz bottles, perfect for DIY at-home manicures or travelling.

The nail colours also have interesting 'local' names. ..And These Are My Colours:
  • Gold - "Chendol Anyone?"
  • Hot Pink - "I Love My Bibik"
  • Green - "Kristang"
  • Semi Clear/Gold Glitter - "Jinggling"
This time around, I'll be doing a swatch for "I Love My Bibik". Yes, the really HOT pink. I expected it to look milky, but it turned out to be a very sharp and bright shade of pink. It's bold and almost neon pink, perhaps not for the faint-hearted.

Depending on how much polish you have on the brush, either one or two coats should be enough. For me, I only did one coat. All except for my ring finger, which I have painted it with "Chendol Anyone?", an absolutely dense and vibrant gold shimmer. It is quite similar to OPI Goldeneye, but more yellow.

I dabbed a little of the semi-clear gold glitter "Jinggling" on the tip my little finger. This combination turned out pretty well, but that's the best I can do with my 'less-dominant' hand strokes. I am a lefty.

Stay tuned for the next update.

Jacqueline Burchell "I Am Peranakan" set is available on sale at Luxola for RM125 a box or SGD$48 from Jacqueline Burchell website. Free shipping on orders above $40!

SEPHORA Collection Color Hit Nail Polish "In Bed With"

I'm really excited to present my very first at-home manicure swatch and review. Sephora was having a members' day sale with 10% plus additional 5% off Sephora brands. I was interested in getting a colour that I could wear again and again. I spotted this sweet Baby Pink shade that I instantly fell in love with.

21-In Bed With

In Bed With comes in a 0.16 oz bottle with a black cap with the brand SEPHORA. An ideal size for me because I prefer to get smaller bottles in more colours than invest in a full sized large bottle.

It looks so sweet, shimmery and innocent.  As I read the name of this shade, my first thought was, "this name sounds incomplete... in bed with..?" Sexy thoughts aside, 'In bed with' is a very light pastel pink that looks like it would turn out sheer.

I couldn't wait to try it out on my bare trimmed nails. Some of my nails chipped last week and I had to cut all them short. I used TOPSHOP NAILS top and base coat for before and after applying the nail colour.

Two coats were all I needed to achieve a pretty decent vibrant opaque. It was quite a challenge applying my own manicure, especially using my non-dominant hand. The polish came out quite thick which formed a few tiny air bubbles while drying. Luckily it wasn't very streaky and had very minimal mess.

It has a very high glossy shine under sunlight. So here's my very first nail polish swatch and review.
Please leave comments if you liked my post or think I can do better.
Have a good day! :D

Chinese New Year of the Horse 2014

Gong Xi Fa Cai and Happy Chinese New Year to all my friends!
Well as expected of most nail salons, there was a price increase or extra charge if you get a mani/pedi before Chinese New Year. I made an appointment for my mani at Nailicious, AGAIN.. because I was quite satisfied with the last time I did my gel colour there.

And also to be expected, when I arrived for my appointment, the salon was full of customers. It took quite some time to wait for my turn, and finally I got my slot.

The colour for CNY is always RED. Red symbolizes good fortune and good luck for Chinese. And I seldom get to wear bright bold red on my fingers because it is too sharp for normal times. I decided to go for floral nail art, just for my thumb and ring finger, didn't want to over do it otherwise it will look too complicated.

So these pics were taken 1 week after, the nails have slightly grown out but it still looks good.
